American Express Company (AXP)

Surprised we're not going over MSFT or AAPL this time around? We wanna give other tickers a chance to take the spotlight. American Express is no lightweight when it comes to companies to do fundamentals on. It's arguably one of the oldest, most renowned financial institutions around. Let's break out the analytics.

Annual Top-Line Revenue:

  • 2015: $34.44B

  • 2016: $35.05B

  • 2017: $39.02B

  • 2018: $43.28B

  • 2019: $47.02B

Last 4 Earnings Result (from most recent):

  • Miss

  • Beat

  • Beat

  • Beat

Historical Stock Returns:

  • 3-month: 26.43%

  • 1-year: -7.49%

  • 5-year: 131.62%

One of the things to watch out for with AXP: it hasn't broken out of its 52-week high at the point of the COVID nosedive at around $138 per share. In other news, AXP's had a little fire lit underneath its rear end with allegations over questionable card sales tactics. Are any of these causes for concern? It might be, but keep an eye out for how prices move post earnings and remember to move incrementally yourself.

Who's in the same space as American Express?

Some of the other publicly traded financial services corporations specializing in credit cards are Mastercard (MA),Visa (V), and Capital One (COF).
